At The Inchcolm, we believe that sustainability can be stylish, and small changes can make a big impact. That’s why we’ve reimagined the way we source, serve, and supply for our guests:

  • Less is More: In room pens and pads are now available only on request, reducing unnecessary waste while still keeping you covered.
  • Mini to Maxi: Single-use bathroom products have been replaced with refillable LaGaia pump dispensers, offering a luxurious experience that’s kinder to the planet.
  • Locally Sourced & Loved: From our dining venues to minibars, we work with suppliers from the Queensland region, who share our sustainable vision where we can – fresh, local, and seasonal.
  • Phasing Out Plastic: Refillable filtered water stations in public spaces make it easy to stay hydrated without single-use bottles & replacing water to purchase in aluminium cans

Together, these steps show that small, thoughtful choices – whether in sourcing, service, or day-to-day operations – can create a big difference for our planet and community.

We’re responding to a changing climate, empower our people and customers to take part, and share our progress along the way:

  • Room Refresh: Skip a room refresh and not only save water, you’ll also receive a $10 food and drink voucher as a little thank you.
  • Reduce and Recycle: Separate recyclables from general waste utilising the dual bins located in your rooms – our housekeeping team will take care of the rest. Additional recycling facilities are also available throughout the hotel.
  • Sip Responsibly: Bring a reusable bottle and refill it at our public water stations to cut down on single-use plastic.
  • Mindful Shopping: Avoid purchasing merchandise derived from threatened species, heritage artifacts or items of significant cultural value whilst travelling.
  • Staff Training: All staff complete and have access to the Sustainability at EVT e-module.

A Community That Cares
Our commitment extends into the local community, supporting initiatives and organisations that make a tangible difference:

  • STRETCH Workplace Giving: Our team members can donate to trusted community partners, including The Children’s Hospital Foundation, Assistance Dogs Australia, Lifeline, WWF Australia, and Disabled Winter Sport Australia.
  • Community Partnerships: We are proud partners with Border Trust, our regions local community foundation, and contribute to many local community and sporting event fundraisers by way of voucher donations.

By combining environmental initiatives with community support, we’re creating a holistic approach to sustainability – one that values people as much as the planet.

You can help

Join us in choosing to protect our environment

Every choice you make during your stay – big or small – helps us move toward a more sustainable future. Together, we can support sustainable tourism through the following simple actions:

  • Use water efficiently and choose to skip linen changes to save water and energy and be rewarded with F&B credit as mentioned already in our Room Refresh initiative.
  • Use energy efficiently and when leaving your room choose to make sure all lights, air conditioners and devices are switched off.
  • Never litter and recycle where you can. Recycling bins will be introduced into all guest rooms to provide guests with a dedicated option for recyclable waste, with Housekeeping trained on new servicing procedures to support consistent implementation.
  • Use reusable water bottles to minimise use of single use plastics bottles and try to use reusable grocery bags when you go shopping.
  • Reduce emissions, meet the locals and immerse yourself in the culture by using public transport. If renting a car, opt for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles or hybrid or electric vehicles.
  • The Inchcolm does not sell any souvenirs but encourages guests to consider the origin of items when purchasing souvenirs while travelling and to avoid purchasing any heritage artefacts or items derived from rare or threatened species.
As an EVT Hotel, The Inchcolm is committed to doing business in a way that contributes to a better tomorrow for our customers, our communities and our environment.
